Conscious Leadership… what the world needs now
The world is so noisy these days its almost too much for me. Many days I have to focus on my to-do list and shut out the rest. Its all I can do to force out the divisive news, hate filled rhetoric and over-the-top claims that seem to surround us.
I’m hungrier than ever for Conscious Leadership.
Which got me thinking: what the heck IS that anyway? How would you define it?
For me it’s:
Open and available to listen
Willing to not know
Willing to be wrong
Ready to learn
The desire to be better
Lifting others as we rise
Interested in others more than ourselves
Wanting to unite your team rather than divide
A deep desire to leave others better off for knowing you
Wow. This is not even a full list, just some top of mind items! As I build out these traits I wonder who can do all that, especially if that’s the beginning of the journey, rather than the practice of it?
This reminds me of a client. We were working on growing the team, which led to conversations about how to support the team. It’s important because as we grow our business we will need more people to be involved. And don’t we want those with integrity, who act ‘consciously’ in service to the mission and vision?
In our meetings we were therefore sharing ideas about what leadership looks like at any given moment. Depending on the scenarios he finds himself in.
How do I BE a leader and what does that mean at this time?
What does my team (or team member) need to feel heard and valued?
Will this lead to the intended outcome or get bogged down in making others feel good?
What ‘muscles’ do I need to strengthen in order to be a better leader?
This conversation has many many many layers.
As do Conscious Leaders!
I could go on as this topic is deep and broad, but I will wrap here by imploring you, dear reader, to be discerning.
To know that when someone shows you who they are, believe them.
To insist on integrity and values that align.
To pursue raising the bar.
To KNOW that Conscious Leaders are out there, and it’s on us to find them, to learn from them and to continue our own education of defining this role.
That each of us has this choice and responsibility as well. Each of us leads some entity, and we must show up as the best version of ourselves as we can. When each of us takes this task on, we can then begin to shift the consciousness of this planet. We can make better choices. Not by ignoring what is so, but by vowing to understand that there is a difference between those do what they promise, and those who only position themselves for their own gain.
Certainly, I will continue my journey to identify, associate with and be the traits of a leader I admire. Please join me…
Much love to Your Unforgettable Adventure!
