Is PIVOT the new Disrupt?

In Branding, Business, Entrepreneurs, Growth, Marketing, New Beginning, Strategy, success

Many of us are aware that words are powerful and meaningful. We know that the Universe makes thoughts into things.

So, I’ve been wondering… did we speak of disruption for so long in a single voice of harmony that we have now been given what we asked for? Disruption is happening in BIG ways right now.

Not in the: let’s CREATE with intention, a new way. DISRUPT is more about demolishing the old. Well, this is what we have created. A Demolishing of much that was.

And now we are hearing the word PIVOT being spoken. If you are not hearing it at least daily, you are likely Not on this planet reading this. haha…

So then let’s take a moment to look into the meaning of it. The dictionary reads: a pin, point, or short shaft on the end of which something rests and turns, or upon and about which something rotates or oscillates.

However we can look more deeply.

As I am fond of acronyms, to me it looks like this:
Pause. Investigate Viable Options for Timely Transitions…or P.I.V.O.T.T.

First, let’s PAUSE. Take a moment. Take a breadth. Start to settle into this new reality. Stop your automatic responses, then replace with considered options. Begin by getting quiet.

As we know, this time is not quiet for everyone. Some of us are now home, which is unfamiliar as a work space. AND we’re there with family, kids, additional responsibilities and all that. It’s okay. Your pause is not my pause, we are all different. Honor that place where you are as you find that voice within. The distraction may simply be a part of your process.

Give yourself the gift of nurturing yourself and your team through this phase.

We will all move on soon enough to Investigating. Here is where it can become exciting. Looking into options we’ve not considered previously. Similar to so many who felt that they couldn’t work virtually. Now, they find that this IS possible. What else may be possible as well?

That’s where the juice is. Many very very very successful companies have pivoted from their original path. Think: Uber, Amazon, and many more.

List everything you can think of over a few days/months. Ask the question before you sleep: What is my next best option? What will fill my soul, and serve my clients? Write down any and all messages you receive even if they don’t seem related.

As we look for the Viable, we’ll then be able to weigh, project and build out models for realizing each idea or new direction. Each can be evaluated to see if they fill your definition of ‘Timely Transitions’. Those ideas who meet your criteria for a venture or actual shift (aka pivot).

As we move ahead through these times as many of us have done before, whether in the 70’s, 80’s 90’s, 2011 or now in 2020, this is not the first nor will it be the last of these shifts in Global consciousness AND our businesses. This is unique for sure, but will not be the last.

I believe that Small Business Owners and those in the Small Business category are THE BEST EQUIPPED for change. Now, we’re about to prove it.
