5 Steps Leaders use to Deal with Doubt
Being a business owner seems to mean that your days are busy, dealing with lots of incoming ‘data’, decisions to be made… and often peppered with doubt. Do you ever wonder how leaders deal with this unwelcome guest?
From doubting all day to moments of WTF?! we all bump up against it. Asking yourself many questions is an essential habit: Will it work? Will we succeed? Will this be well received? Am I the one to lead? But are these helpful or hurtful to get stuck in?
Now many have additional concerns… we’re worried about our team, about our ability to make it through this time, we wonder if we have the tenacity, resilience and bank to do it (among other concerns).
For some feeling doubt is paralyzing. For others it invigorates, generating action.
Either way the stakes can be high.
In speaking to so many people and observing myself as well, I’ve been reminded repeatedly that it’s important for us to address these feelings to clear the way for responses that will serve not swerve the business.
Of course we can’t be certain all the time, its simply not possible. Some days you may doubt what you were sure of just minutes ago! That’s life.
One thing is true though, this is a low energy vibration that we can raise.
For instance, one business owner I know has been waiting. Waiting to be sure, to have the right message, to be certain she won’t offend or overstep he ‘opinions’. What she’s forgotten is that she IS an expert. Her thoughts and philosophy’s are deeply valued by her ‘tribe’, her audience respects her So much, they would be relieved to hear from her. Holding back is not only unfair to her business and its contributions, but also to those she leads.
Don’t let this be you.
Done is better than perfect, so stop waiting for the right moment. It’s here. It’s been here.
For some fun, I’ve created a new acronym… which has 5 steps to deal with doubt…
Let the doubt be present while you DECIDE to move ahead. Course correct as needed.
Move into the choice based on your OWN knowledge of the situation. You ARE an expert and the world needs your voice and offerings.
Design a path that is as UNCOMPLICATED as possible. Make it easy to hear you, access you, get what you have.
Allow your vision and intuition to carry you BEYOND what you have previously accomplished. Having an eye to the future, no matter how that shifts is always useful.
Practice the above until you TRANSFORM the doubt on a regular basis. This is a practice. Just as we practice doubt we can also practice leaning in, no matter if doubt is present.
We are living in a world that is shifting quickly.
Get support, lean in rather than out and find the path forward. You’ll be glad you did, and YOU will add to this world in your own very special way. The way of your UnforgettableBrand.
