Look But Don’t See
Every day I walk a few miles with my dog.
It’s good for him sure, but I’ve become addicted to those quiet moments out in nature. My home is in a bird sanctuary so its filled with the songs of many creatures which makes it even nicer.
On top of all that I live in a place where the weather is almost always why-I-Live-here weather. (see photo)
Sometimes, that life leads me to being a bit unaware of my surroundings. That sort of ground-hogs day of doing the same thing over and over and over and over, day after day after day. When I’m in that space I don’t feel the breeze, or hear the birds or notice much except the black surface of the street as I trudge around the neighborhood.
Have you ever driven to work and don’t recall how you got there? Or maybe moved and still drive to the old house without thinking. That always made me laugh at myself!
The other day I stopped.
In my tracks.
And thought, oh! I’m missing this gorgeous day!
Then I realized I was missing more than that.
I wasn’t Being present.
I was thinking about stuff that was from the past, that couldn’t be changed.
These thoughts were keeping my vibration low.
Walking with my head down was keeping me from breathing in fresh air. Literally!
So I took a moment to breathe deeply, to fill my lungs with some new air.
To look around and get centered.
I looked up and was surprised by what I saw.
Not that it was unpleasant.
Or different from other beautiful days.
Actually the sight made me gasp!
It was SO amazingly beautiful.
The sky was a stark blue.
NO clouds, not a one.
This sight was pure perfection.
So why am I telling you this and what does this have to do with business?
Cuz here’s why…
Walking with my head down, while only seeing the black top the road.. combined with thinking/worrying about things I could do nothing about… I had no idea what I was missing!
Just those 2 things had me Not Seeing what was happening in the moment.
You may see it as a ‘beautiful day’.
Seeing it, missing out on the opportunity of experiencing that day, and not even aware that is was occurring.
Just as we miss out on opportunities at work when we’re not present.
Or we miss out on what someone is Not saying but is behind their words when we don’t listen fully.
Maybe you missed that look someone gave that indicated belief or disbelief…. that look that you would have responded to, and by doing so you’re able to go deeper or explain better or maybe make a sale.
And maybe, just maybe we miss out on something that could be life changing, or business changing…
Or THE one thing that could change the whole game!
By not being present as leaders we’re also modeling the same for others.
It was a powerful reminder for me.
So today, I invite You to be fully present.
Beyond this, I invite you to look for what others may miss.
You could be given the chance to notice something that isn’t available to anyone else.
That lines up with Your talents.
That then shows you your next big thing, or revenue stream.
Your reason for being in business and of service.
Your brand reflects all of this… if you don’t think so, you may not be paying attention to all you send out.
Something to consider… as you are Unforgettable!
