Not Knowing – Is it a New Normal?
Many of us are going through a lot right now.
Some are finding their way, others are not. Not that this is anything new, but the difference is that we are projecting into a level of not knowing that hadn’t existed before. All those we are in contact with, from our teams to those who are ‘essentially’ serving, we don’t know the impact or stresses in their lives. We don’t know what our clients are truly dealing with, or their children, parents, friends. There’s more to consider than ever before.
That may be true. It’s also true that we need to focus on what’s next. The future.
In order to reach the vision of a healthy business (or self), we need to see it. So, what does that look like now? Some are proceeding on the path they’ve been on, others have shifted and more are having to start fresh.
Each is an opportunity.
Here’s what I am learning from working with my clients:
*Keep it simple. That’s right, the less we can complicate things the better. This is always true, I’m always looking for a simple solution, and now we really need this to be our mantra. When we do ALLLL the things we get overwhelmed and burnt out. Further, this can confuse our clients. Stress isn’t healthy either. Stay true to yourself and look for the path of least resistance.
*Take care of yourself. Give yourself more downtime, rather than less. Do what you can to nurture yourself. There’s the point of not getting sick, but also caring for our mental and emotional states.
*Stay focused on what’s ahead. Looking behind us may not be the best for now. Let’s DECIDE that what is coming is better and find a way forward. Focus is a key word now, as we are living with more distraction than ever. Leaders focus on the future, we need to tap into that part of ourselves as often as possible.
*Speak to your coach and get some new ideas, do some restructuring, create a new strategy. Doing so with assistance will ensure that you invest your time and energy wisely, for the highest return. Just last week, I spoke with clients who were spending (money and energy) needlessly without the return they could get with much less effort!
The other day as I was watching people at the beach I realized how often this comes up. Trying to pack up all the things for a family of 6 (maybe 7) a lone parent was clearly frustrated and overwehlmed. Plus it was taking sooooo long! Finally another adult appeared and in about 4 minutes it was all done. Done. It was a beautiful reminder and illustration that we do this too as business owners. We can get annoyed and frustrated doing it all solo, we see fewer options and it can be so hard to do it alone.
We can forget that when we solve problems and have insights from another, we can open to so many new options and reach our goals much faster.
So, how bout you? Would you like to move faster or continue to be worried and frustrated? Investing is for your sanity and the well-being of your business and all those you influence.
Be kind, we’ve got a ways to go.
