Starting from Now…

As we are now over 40 days into a New Year, my thoughts go to those who have already lost sight of or have been knocked off track from your intentions set for the year. Of course, this conversation extends beyond, yet includes marketing actions. There are many elements that contribute to our ability to be better business owners.

One such element that is critical and is integrated into all my work is the element of stretching. It has been my observation that this important piece that is in itself an opening to mastery is often omitted. Stretching in this instance is defined as ‘extending and lengthening the muscles to reach the utmost’. However, inclusion of ALL muscles such as emotional and intellectual muscles must be considered.

It is not unusual that our goals and intentions to grow our business are based on numbers. This year (for instance) you may desire to double your business revenues, yet the correlation between that desire and the means to achieve it will have a greater opportunity for success when paired with stretching. Here are some ways to get to that place that will have a bankable yield for you:

1. Make the decision to stretch.
This may sound like a no-brainer, but seriously until we decide for
real beyond lip service, the results you desire are out of reach. For some, getting involved in marketing consciously is in itself a huge stretch yet deciding to stretch beyond this constraint can yield exciting results.

2. Look beyond what you’ve done in the past.
This request is about finding new ways to reach out of your current constraints. What sandbox have you always wanted to play in, but haven’t yet tried? You instinctively know where your skill-sets would work. Now is the time to step into that place. This will be fun, and if you’re getting those little butterflies in your belly, you now which ones to go for.

 3. Don’t assume this is about increasing your budget.   
 So often our ‘yeah-buts’ are around the required investment may be. Please ask yourself what the cost is Not to extend yourself into this new territory. It may cost little or nothing, or it may require the assistance of a coach or trusted mentor. Either way consider the pay-off of each action and choose two to get started with the support to ensure success. Yes, more than one. Create a strategy for the next 100-200 days and get busy. There’s no reason to make this hard, stretching isn’t about pain it’s all about growth. Your muscles may feel like you’ve been to the gym, but in a good way.

The bottom line is that in order to get where you SAY you want to go, aligning our desires and actions is essential. Continuing to do the same thing expecting different results has to be a thing of the past in order to live our dreams. You have a mission, a market and the ability to go further. Begin stretching today and you will grow into the business owner you dream of becoming.
